THE CRAFT
Eight Disciplines
Every Varchasva piece passes through eight disciplines before it is complete.
Each one is a world of its own practised by craftsmen in Varchasva, whose families have shaped teak for generations.
This is not production. This is practice.
01- THE FIRST DISCIPLINE
Wood
FILLING
Fine wood dust mixed with fevicol is pressed by hand into every gap, knot, and uneven surface of the teak. A traditional levelling technique that prepares the wood for flawless painting — invisible when done right, and impossible to skip.
Wood TURNING
Seasoned Gujarat teak, shaped by hand on a lathe by craftsmen whose families have worked this wood for generations. Every pole, orb, and finial turned individually — the grain read, the form earned, rotation by rotation.
02- THE SECOND DISCIPLINE
04- THE FOURTH DISCIPLINE
Fabric
PAINTING
On select pieces, our artists paint directly onto the textile by hand. No two are identical. Freehand, unhurried — until the fabric feels not placed on the swing, but finished with it.
03- THE THIRD DISCIPLINE
Traditional
PAINTING
Sankheda's two-century-old tradition, executed without compromise. Diamond lattice patterns and heritage motifs painted entirely freehand — no stencil, no template. Every stroke drawn from a memory passed down through generations of artisan families.
05- THE FIFTH DISCIPLINE
Fabric
DESIGNING
Watch exclusive print and textile design for VARCHASVA is conceived by Sayee Deshpande,a distinguished fabric designer , her creations ranging from heritage inspired motifs to bof geometric forms from fine art patterns to meticulously placed designs ,are envisioned as works of art before a single cut of fabric is made ,making the fabric itself a canvas of artistic expression
06- THE SIXTH DISCIPLINE
Wood
PAINTING
The teak surface becomes the canvas. Original designs painted directly onto the wood by hand — motifs, compositions, commissioned works conceived for this piece alone. Where the craft tradition ends and something rarer begins.
08- THE EIGHTH DISCIPLINE
Wood
POLISHING
The final discipline. Each piece hand-polished until the grain comes forward, every surface sealed, and the finish confirms what only touch can verify — that the piece is complete. The craftsman's last signature.
07- THE SEVENTH DISCIPLINE
Wood
CARVING
Carved by national award-winning wood carvers — recognised by the Government of India as among the finest in the country. Motifs, monograms, and architectural patterns cut chisel by chisel into prepared teak.
